This piece reflects the first afternoon we took out a well-loved canoe passed down to us from a friend who knew it deserved more than sitting around collecting dust. On an unusually hot spring day at Woods Pond in October Mountain State Forest, we drifted through quiet water surrounded by painted turtles, slowly realizing this was about to become part of our Berkshire summers. Somewhere out in the middle of the lake, XB pulled out a harmonica and started playing across the water — one of those weirdly perfect little moments that sticks with you long after the day ends.
